The snow-covered San Juan Mountains around Silverton provide an enchanting setting for various outdoor winter activities including alpine, extreme, snow-cat and cross-country skiing; snowshoeing, ice fishing, natural ice climbing, ice skating, sledding and snowmobiling. The Silverton Snowmobile Club grooms many miles of multi-use trails with easy access from town on US Highway 550. Guided tours are available for snowmobiling, extreme and snow-cat skiing. Kendall Mountain Ski Area
The Kendall Mountain Ski Area is a perfect spot for inexpensive family fun. At Kendall your family can enjoy a variety of downhill adventures including sledding, skiing, snowboarding, and tubing. Open Fridays - Sundays and holidays, a full day lift ticket will only cost you $10 per senior (age 65+), $15 per adult (age 19-64), $10 per child (age 6-18), children under age 5 ski for free! Sharpen up those blades and try out the town ice rink. There is no charge for skating, sledding or tubing. Ice skate rentals are available on the top floor of the Kendall Mountain Community Center. Silverton Mountain Ski Area
Silverton Mountain Ski Area provides excellent lift access, backcountry type skiing for expert and advanced skiers and snow boarders. Don’t come looking for groomed runs, crowds, or condos. Durango Mountain Resort (at Purgatory)
Offers skiers and snowboarders a complete Rocky Mountain Adventure. Visitors will find more than 80 runs spread across 1,200 acres served by 10 lifts. DMR has lodging, rentals, lessons, food & beverage, a Nordic Center and a new $50 million base facility. Durango Mountain Resort is located 23 scenic miles south of Silverton on US Highway 550.
